Guide to Map
MPG V2.8, January 2013

Advisories about Google map display and and about the Carbon River Road.

Guide

The hikes are catagorized as:

   NP Entrance, each of the five entrances to the NP;

   Facility, ADA compliant visitors center, roadside rest/picnic area, lodges, etc.;

   Trail & Viewing area, ADA compliant for accessibility, but not all accommodate wheelchairs;

   Campgrounds, ADA compliant campsites, restrooms, facilities.

Information

Note about .-- The "information window" for each lake has the following information:

    (1) Name,
    (2) Type,
    (3) Location - area, latitude, longitude, elevation,
    (4) Description of access, and
    (5) Notes, seasons and operation.

This should provide sufficient information to locate the lake and with the other Websites, linked in the list, and books should provide enough informaton to determine if you want to find it.

Advisories

The operation of each of the places on the map varys during the year with the needs of the National Park Service for managing and operating the resources in the NP, and the seasonal and weather conditions in the NP during the year, and especially from fall through winter to the following (late) spring.

This requires the NPS to close entrances, roads, facilities, campgrounds for the winer, and restrict operation through the winter based on seasonal, weather and road conditions until the following spring. The actual dates each year varys with those conditions and NPS resources. This is outlined in the NP Newsletter.

The only book in print I've found on ADA access for the NP, list below, is a good resource for some of the specific conditions for ADA compliance with respect to facilities, campgrounds, trails, etc. The book, however, has some significant inaccuracies in the general information about the NP, described here, which makes a recommendation conditional depending on your needs for the information in the book.

Resources

Below are some additional resources for Mt Rainier NP and the available ADA complaint facilities, campgrounds, rest/picnic areas, lodges, trails, etc.
